Book Updates, International Sales, and Coming Soon

Please permit me to open with this: I am more amazed than anyone that my first book BODIES is selling. While definitely not headed for the bestsellers list any time soon, it is selling.

Yesterday I received an email from a reader in Canada. I guess he hit some minor hurdles ordering the book - but it finally arrived and he's pretty darn excited about it. However, he's probably not as excited as I am.

I've heard from a number of folks in the UK and Australia. Barnes and Noble, for whatever reason, seems to fail at overseas sales/shipping. I knew this was a potential issue when I opted to publish through them but now it looks like I have to look into outside distribution in addition to B&N. Fear not, I think I've figured it out! I'm going through all the details this week and will hopefully have things sorted soon.

Of particular interest, this new line of distribution will allow readers to (at least) order my books through their favorite local bookstore, regardless of size. If your fave is a funky little shop that specializes in oddball stuff, you should be able to order it through them once I've set up distribution. I'm told it will also make it easier for libraries to stock my books...which is really my goal.

Sure, it'd be great to sell a ton of books - but if you know me at all, commerce is never my reason for doing what I do. I enjoy creating - whether it be music, videos, photography, films, and now books. I stick with my old mantra: if I dig it, someone else might. Who knows, it might be you. Regarding my books, I like to imagine someone, years from now, finding one of my books in the library or a 2nd hand bookstore, reading it, and being inspired or at least entertained.

Book update time! Yesterday I received my author's proof copy of my latest book, LITTLE GUY. For the word nerds out there, I opted for nicer cover material. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the book feels. (yes, I know to some that sounds weird, but it's a thing among word nerds) Overall, it looks good, feels good, and (I think) reads well (DISCLAIMER: It's a good read if you enjoy my weird scribbles. If you're looking for Hemingway, wrong aisle.)

I'm trying to set up a Pre-Order Special for this book, but B&N seems to be behind the times on this. We'll see. If not, LITTLE GUY should be available by July 25th.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

I'm currently in the process of formatting my next two books! I won't say that I'm particularly prolific. I just tend to let things back up. About 18 months ago I started writing my novel. I thought it was finished a few times...but it wasn't. That's just how books go. They take on their own life and timeline. Once I start writing, all sorts of ideas start to fall out of my head. Whether that's good or bad is, ultimately, up to the reader to decide. That said, I won't publish something simply because I've written it. I have lots and lots of scribbles none of you will ever read. The collections of short stories I've compiled come together when I realize that 'hey, this story works with that one...and that one...'. The feedback so far has been positive, and for that I'm humbled. So, I have another collection of shorts coming in August, and if all goes to plan, my novel will be available in late September. It's a big'un! And, I'm personally happy with it. Like I said, it took on its own life. Certain characters insisted on more in-depth page time. I honestly think they'll resonate with a lot of people. Fair to say, it's a different type of book than some might be used to...but I'm getting ahead of myself.

As for LITTLE GUY, what can you expect? I'll leave you with a few spoilers. Groundhogs, Elvis, Metzgerized mythology, and more. The book can probably be best described thusly:

Sometimes unsettling.

Sometimes funny.

Sometimes unexpectedly tender.

Unmistakably Metzger.

The Money Miser

I'm usually not one to suggest products or suggest against products...unless I think they're really fantastic or utter pieces of crap. Well I'm here to tell ya, the Money Miser Coin Sorter SUCKS ROTTING ZOMBIE ASS! I've always been frugal...but don't take that as cheap . I work hard for my money and I like to save when/where I can. For the past few years (which from 2007-2010 were really tight), I've always kept a jar on the kitchen table, and when I get home at night (or in the morning as is the case most days) I dump whatever pocket change I have into said jar. I'd usually cash it in at Ye Olde Coinstar machine just before payday...in case I needed gas, lunch money, or just a night on the town. I would usually amass $60 or per month this way. This past year has been pretty decent financially so around May, I switched to a bigger jar. I hadn't taken anything OUT of the jar since around April. Well, the jar finally got so full (and so heavy I co...

New Book! (and what comes next)

My 1st print book now exists. What a strange way to put it. I've always enjoyed writing, even when I was a kid and it wasn't cool . Honestly, I never thought I'd do anything with it. It was just another outlet for all of the ideas banging around in my head. For decades, a lot of these thoughts became songs. Now I've returned to the simplicity of words. I write because I enjoy telling stories - pretty much the same with songwriting. The only difference is that now I don't have to go on a stage or into a recording studio. There I days I miss both, but who knows...maybe one day I'll do it all again. Writers write for different reasons. Some for acclaim or notoriety. Some for profit. Same as with music, painting, sculpting, acting - I think those goals are a matter of seeking validation. But for what? Doing what you enjoy is validation enough. For years I've written this blog. In some ways, it's the perfect medium for me. I do it, it's done, published, ...

A Very Teddy Tuesday

I told myself I wouldn't do this. I didn't want to share any part of the new book yet. But - I'm enjoying it too much, and that feels selfish. Lord knows I don't write for any reason other than to share stories, so I edited a few bits down to this little excerpt. You might like it. Might not. Might think WTF?! Might ignore it all together. No matter what you think, or if you even read it at all, I'm enjoying writing it. Those who know me won't be surprised. Yet. - MCM 6/20/26 Mid-afternoon sun spilled through a dirty window, cutting across the living room in long golden beams. Dust drifted lazily through the light. Teddy the cockroach made his way up a dusty work boot. The boot had been there longer than anyone could remember. So had the body beside it. The humans who once occupied the old house were long gone. Their furniture remained. Their toys remained. Their guns remained. Even some of the humans themselves remained, though mostly as bones and geography. T...
